Ah, The Rover. One of my most favorite and renown pieces of work.  I remember how I got my inspiration for this play. In 1670, when one of my masterpieces, The Force'd Marriage, was first put onstage for the public to see and enjoy, that was perhaps the best day of my life! My career as a playwright was just beginning. It was not particularly easy putting on my first play because of the sexist views of many men  of power. Most men thought it was impossible for a woman to reach a career as a playwright, much less maintain a successful career, and all of the criticisms were what fueled me to prove the men wrong. My inspiration for The Rover was specifically from opinions men have had toward myself in real life, so The Rover models the fallacious thoughts and views that men had towards women, which made women seem inferior to men.
